This is the first movie I saw Gerard Butler. What was with his hair! This movie was very good. I really liked Billy Connelly, too. There is a very good scene with Billy and Gerard running into the sea, but the whole movie was very good. A must see.
Mrs. Brown is certainly one of the finest movies Gerard Butler has been in. Judi Dench and Billy Connelly are outstanding. Dench of course never disappoints but her performance here is truly amazing. Her grief-stricken Queen Victoria transforming from bitter and reclusive into someone able to live life again is a joy to watch.
Billy Connelly is perfectly cast as the irreverant Scot who forcefully aids her transformation. I loved Connelly after this film!
The film skirts around the idea of a romance. It strongly implies one but the title Mrs. Brown is only a nod to the rumors that circulated at that time. A romance per se is not part of the plot and that is the way it should be, because this story is more about the other things Brown gave to the queen…such as her life back.
As far as Gerard Butler goes, it’s not his film, but he solidly rounds out the cast with a fine performance. He is a good match for Billy and they play well off each other.
What I love about Butler in this is he is he so very Scottish, as the role requires. I’d love to see him in more Scottish roles because, though he likes to pepper his conversation with references to his Celtic roots and his own Scottishness, he seems very far removed from that now.
Mrs. Brown gets a big thumbs up from me. What an outstanding movie for Gerard to have on his resume as his first big film!
